Are You Ready For Some (Captioned) Football?

A Look At VITAC’s Role During Football Season

Now that the NFL lockout is a thing of the past, many people have one thing on their mind: football season. VITAC weekly captions approximately 135 game hours for college football and approximately 30 game hours for the NFL on eight different networks (NBC, CST, Fox Sports Net, FOX, NFL Network and Raycom Sports, to name a few).  Today we turn the spotlight on our fabulous sports department.

Matt Schuman, a Sports Supervisor and die-hard Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan, offers some insight into VITAC‘s duties during football season. Matt has been with the company since 2001 and the Sports Supervisor since 2006, so it’s no surprise that he has plenty of experience with sports programming. He explains that although VITAC‘s sports schedule is busy throughout the year, “the Fall season is by far our busiest time,” and estimates that, “our work load triples from the summer months into the fall.”

As a Sports Supervisor, Matt’s “main responsibility is keeping in constant communication with all of our clients who caption football and making all the necessary changes to their schedules.” With college football games happening through the day on Saturday, Matt admits that it is the hardest day to work: “If everything goes smoothly, then your work day is just really busy. If there are any problems with any of the games, your day immediately becomes crazy.”

Regardless of your team of choice, football fans alike can rejoice knowing that football season is already ramping up here at VITAC. The NFL’s preseason started yesterday and the regular season starts Thursday, September 8. College football kicks off on Thursday, September 1.
